Book review of The Gene Rasp by Patrick L. McConnell

A remarkable journey in the world of science fiction, by Patrick L. McConnell, The Gene Rasp translates heart and mind by exploring the heart and personality with a journey of the creator of a marvelous life-changing tool that gives hope to mankind a future utopia. Interesting from the beginning, the story takes place in the future, with the autobiography of of the middle character Tom Spoon later known as Dr. Tom Maloof to be published in 2165. Yet this is not an ordinary human history book because Tom is no ordinary man; He actually became the savior of the future humanity as he developed a flexible medical device called Gene Rasp that could alter the genes of people who provide cancer treatments and many other diseases thus making immortality a little clearer. Simply put, the story is captivating as Tom Spoon attracts readers around the world with a humble and relaxed voice, drawing rich images as he depicts his life, remembering people, relationships, and experiences that touched his journey from orphanage to famous physician. He relates that growing up in an orphanage where we read that Tom's life was lonely when he was a boy, although he was surrounded by many others, he was different, as he had dyslexia. Believing that his mind was broken but determined to overcome his suffering, he longed to be understood and connected to something, and he began to write poems, a heartfelt art form that seemed to be integrated throughout the story. Tom is growing up despite dyslexia continuing to achieve more with his life. He won a woodworking competition at the age of eighteen, went to college, and later graduated from high school. Tom's entire journey culminates in a version with a hope for an immortal future. A very interesting reading, Gene Rasp draws attention to a clever and richly crafted journey through science fiction. I admired the efforts of author Patrick L. McConnell in this work as he successfully narrated a thought-provoking and heartwarming story at the same time. In particular, I enjoyed the refreshing installation of QR code tags and URL links as well as the final installation of the movie version screen, all of which worked well to enhance the learning experience by creating a deeper connection with the reader. And personally, I think this could make a good movie and look forward to some of McConnell's works. This is a must-read addition to your science fiction collection.
