Herbs & Spices: The Precious Friends For Our Health
They say that in order to be healthy, you need to eat right, but do we really know what is right? Look at your kitchen cabinets; I’m sure part of us will not know the benefits of the little things put on our grocery shelf. For example, did you know that herbs and spices in your dishes are a storehouse of health benefits? Here are a few common remedies and spices that we can easily find in any home but know nothing about the health benefits it offers.
1. Cayenne or 'Lal Mirch'The famous philosopher Plato once said, "Pepper is small in size and large in beauty". So is cayenne. Cayenne or better known as Lal Mirch relieves many gastro constipation problems. It is very interesting to know that Cayenne soothes a sore throat and cures other symptoms of the flu and the flu. Apart from this Cayenne regulates the metabolism of the human body which promotes weight loss and strong defenses. Tip- Add dash to your food and juices to get extra kicks and a zingy taste. 2. Oregano
I'm sure all pizza lovers out there know exactly how oregano tastes. Oregano is rich in antioxidants. It is said that one tablespoon of oregano contains as many antioxidants as 2 cans of broccoli. Regular consumption of oregano slows digestion and combats respiratory problems. Tip- It goes very well with Italian cuisine like pizza, soup, pasta and sandwiches. 3. Cinnamon or ‘Dal Chini’
Cinnamon or Dal Chini is a favorite dish of the kitchen. The aroma and flavor of the cinnamon add to the richness of the dish. Besides adding flavor, cinnamon is known for its rich antioxidant content. Cinnamon intake increases insulin activity in the body which helps control fat and the risk of type 2 diabetes. Tip - Add a pinch of cinnamon powder to your banana cake mixture or gel sandwiches. 4. Turmeric or 'Haldi'
Turmeric gives a rich color to the curry. Curcumin, a substance found in turmeric, has medicinal properties. It is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and natural anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric eliminates toxins in the liver and improves brain health. Tip - Add curry powder to a vegetable salad, chicken salad or egg salad to enhance flavor. 5. Cumin or 'Jeera'
Cumin, slightly bitter and spicy, is another magical spice. Cumin is said to be the second most widely used herb in the world. It is called anti-microbial properties and helps reduce constipation. Tip- Add a pinch of cumin powder to all your favorite foods 6. Ginger or 'Adrak'
Ginger is widely used in cooking and is an important ingredient in many different herbs. One gram of ginger a day prevents nausea. Apart from this, ginger also has anti-inflammatory properties that help control pain. Studies have shown that 2 grams of ginger a day can reduce the risk of colon cancer. Tip - Add ginger to all your dishes and salad, it will add flavor. These were just a few of the herbs and spices we saw every day in our kitchen utensils but we ignored their health benefits just because we were unaware. Healthy eating is essential for a healthy mind and body. Make your daily diet healthy by adding a dash of these herbs and spices and taking care of yourself and your family.
